Serving in the Army is a love hate relationship. You meet people from all walks of life. Some are good, and some are bad. Deployments can be rough being away from family and friends. But, the average American can use the Army to become a better person, further themselves, advance their education, and get back on their feet financially.
Pros
Job security, a consistent paycheck, relationships built by meeting new people
Cons
Petty corrections. Bad apples ruining it for everybody.

I don't regret it. I would do it all over again. Sense of purpose, sense of belonging, challenging yourself every day to get the job done. But, not for everyone.

Just over the politics of it all. I wish that the mission was more important than the constant complaining that somehow prevails. It's just not for me anymore.

it's the military, you will either hate it or love it. we are a country that does not require a 2 year service contract like some others. Even though we should. it helps give you a sense of purpose for HS students that have NO clue on what the want to do

the army has its good and bad aspects just like any other career. You meet some great people from all over the nation, you gain a abundance of skills and opportunities if you decide to take advantage of the resources. There will be times you have to do some stuff you think are stupid and don’t agree with. Leadership is hit or miss but overall good experience.

The US Army or military in general has great benefits and you are compensated well both enlisted and officer sides. People complain about the pay a lot for a variety of reasons (especially enlisted), but they fail to realize that the military is really the only place that will pay that much for no degree.

The other benefits are awesome. Healthcare, dental, vision and especially worth it if you have a big family. Education and training benefits can take you from cook to doctor if you have the drive for it.

The work culture varies from place to place but overall the mission first, people second culture is pretty toxic. A lot of good people leave the organization before they make it to higher levels of organizational leadership so what you end up left with is all the bad people.

Honestly, there’s too much to say about this organization for one review. If you’re thinking about joining, do yourself a favor and talk to some veterans first.
Pros
Pay, benefits, training
Cons
Long hours, no flexibility, contractual basis

The Army is the largest military branch in the United States. Soldiers in the U.S. Army protect America’s freedoms at home and abroad, and have to be ready to defend the nation in times of need. Working in the Army can mean a lot of different things, as there are lots of different branches and groups. There are soldiers on active duty, who serve full-time, either on a base within the U.S. or abroad, all of whom receive a full salary along with health and retirement benefits. There are also part-time soldiers in the Army Reserve who have civilian jobs during the week and train and report for duty just one weekend a month and two weeks a year. There are enlisted soldiers who are responsible for carrying out missions and tasks and officers who are responsible for managing the enlisted soldiers.

Regardless of whether you’re an army applicant, a first-time soldier or a long-standing officer, it’s always good to know what people have to say about working for the largest military branch in the U.S. So, we’d like to share some of the reviews left by former soldiers on our site.

“It’s a hard job but there are good benefits” says one former soldier but “the army is a great career field look into it if you are looking for something out of the norm.” Many former soldiers also talk about it being “the best experience of my life” and the fact that they work very hard but are well-respected and “get a decent salary with great benefits.” Some of the benefits on offer are: flexible working hours, onsite daycare facilities that are reimbursed, paid parental leave and health and life insurance.

You will work your tail off. It's certainly not a 9 to 5 job. Until you get to your duty station. My first 4 years, after basic and your schooling was in Germany. It was wonderful. We worked 6am til 3pm. Except on Thursday which is considered family day in Germany. You get off work after lunch. Plus you get 90 minutes for lunch every day. 6 am was PT til 7 am. Then you reported to work by 8am.
Pros
Everything
Cons
The field sucks.
